Some helpful links

Read the procedure I did for a home fecal transplant on my November 2012 post

That day my colitis turned around and I finally began recovering from the gas, diarrhea, blood, mucus, urgency, etc. I no longer suffer from these symptoms and do not take any medications.

I am also eating fermented foods and still on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (no sugar, no starch, no yeast, no lactose, no wheat) which may be helping the fecal transplant become established amongst the bad bacteria that had taken over in my colon.

These two other sites will be encouraging to those interested in using a FMT to restore their gut bacteria.

Great story and his site is very informative. http://fecaltransplant.org/story/

  1. Hi Teri,
So happy for you! I hope you're still doing great. My daughter, 15 , has UC and now is in the flare-up stage. We're considering doing the FTP, however, she has bloody stools now. Do you know if it's safe to do FTP while still having blood in the stool?
She's on ASACOL 2 tablets x 2 a day and a mesalamine at night (she was good, with no symptoms for 7 months). We really don't want to either increase the dose, or to go to other drugs. we're doing low animal protein diet, but lots of veggies and fruits, as well as legumes and some whole grains. During the flare up

  2. Hi Terry,
What med were you taking when you did the transplant? Did you have blood in your stool?

  3. I wasn't taking any meds when I did the transplant. I was prescribed sulfasalazine but it gave me a low grade fever after taking it for about two weeks, plus a sore throat. At night the fever would go up and keep me awake half the night. As soon as I quit taking the sulfasalazine, the fever and sore throat went away.

I did have blood in my stool when I did the transplant. Doing the transplant really turned things around quickly for me. Some have to keep doing transplants. I think perhaps I was able to get the transplant slurry into my appendix, where bacteria is stored to replenish the gut. It is a slow process of healing but it is working. I haven't had symptoms for months.

I may have a little loose stools after eating some non SCD foods, but that goes away pretty quickly.'

The Specific Carbohydrate Diet really makes a huge difference. Stay away from all processed foods and just eat real food - no starch, gluten, grains, lactose, sugar, flour, etc. The Breaking The Vicious Cycle book explains why - check it out at your local library.

    1. Hi Teri
Thanks for the posts/the blog. Finally I have my main question answered! That being can I do this while bleeding.

I also have been following the SCD diet after being diagnosed with eosinophilic colitis (similar to UC) about 8 months ago now. I started with a juice fast to allow for healing and then followed the diet really strictly.

I had got a lot better. I felt I was clear from the problem. But, just recently I had a flare. I'm in the middle of it now.

I really dont't want to take any medication for this, or go down that route, and so am looking to do the transplant using my daughters stool.

Can you let me know if you feel it is ok to do without using a saline solution? Or can I make my own saline solution?

Also, does it not need heating up to body temperature or something?

I'm going to do it soon. Just preparing the materials needed.

      thanks

  4. I was having full symptoms when doing a home FMT - cramps, blood, gas, diarreah, etc. - the whole works. Within a week or so after doing the transplant, I was back to normal, as long as I stated on SCD foods.

I didn't use saline as I didn't have any. We have a well, so I just used tap (well) water. Many people do make their own saline solution using salt.

I did the FMT immediately after it was given to me my husband. Some have use it within a few hours. Others have refrigerated it or even froze the donor material for a later infusion.
